MEET THE DIRECTORS

Kate Bettenay
Founder & Director of Operations

I'm a mother of 3 beautiful children, Hunter, Zac and Phoebe, and Wife of Dave Madden. After witnessing first hand the stress a cancer diagnosis has on a family and how little practical support is available, I decided to create the Hero Hunter Foundation. We were fortunate to have a huge support network to help out with the every day needs of our family following Hunter's diagnosis and during his treatment. I know that not all families are fortunate as we were and my hope is that the HHF will fill this service gap by offering an 'extended family' support network to all families with a childhood cancer diagnosis. HHF is a legacy for my eldest son Hunter who battled Leukaemia for 5 years before passing away in September 2021.

Sarah-Jayne Powell
I’m Sarah-Jayne Powell, Director of Nursing for St John of God, Murdoch Hospital, with 30 years experience in Healthcare and Leadership. I have worked closely with the SJOG foundation to establish a community event called Light up the Lake with Love at the hospital that invites families who have lost loved ones to gather and remember them at Christmas time. I am also a facilitator for Leading Empowered Organisations which is an incredible healthcare leadership management course.
Having suddenly lost our own son, Jacob, at age 17 in 2021, my husband Victor and I are committed to ensuring a legacy of compassion and kindness in his honour. Having read Hunter’s story, Hero Hunter Foundation touched my heart in a way that compelled me to help in any way I could.
I am honoured to be a Director and look forward to helping families at a time when they are at their most vulnerable, allowing them to feel supported and cared for.
